Would you like a specially composed tune written by Mairearad? If so, please get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org
Mairearad is quickly becoming one of Scotland’s finest tune writers. Among the favourites are “Maggie West’s Waltz” and “Dram Behind the Curtain.” The latter recently recorded on Eddi Reader’s Burn’s Deluxe album and you can download “Maggie West’s Waltz” here.
Branching out from the traditional style of composition, in 2007, Mairearad wrote the music for the short film “Sea of Glass”. This gave Mairearad the impetus to write on a larger scale and at Celtic Connections 2009, Mairearad’s New Voices Commission ‘Passing Places’ was sold out and said to be a highlight of the festival.
“The third, final, and undoubtedly best of this year’s New Voices series.”
Barry Gordon, The Scotsman.
Box Club have recorded the following of Mairearad’s compositions: The First Rule of Box Club, Total Modesty, The Ism, Dr Butterworths and Deirdre’s Extensions. The Anna Massie Band have recorded Maggie West’s Waltz, Sheila and David’s March, Dad’s Landrover, Dram behind the Curtain, and The Missing Gift. The Poozies have recorded Memoirs of a Geezer, Pedal No More, Pam Holden’s Reel, Achiltibuie and Mairearad and Anna have recorded You Can’t Play a House, Alastair and Annie’s Cottage, Malteser Madness, John and Eddi’s Wedding, Bob and Alison’s Reel, Cathedral Cave, Peter and Jaclyn’s Wedding, The Red Poppy Reel, Bottle Island, and Julia and Simon’s. With a passion for composition and keen to develop fresh and exciting approaches to writing Mairearad’s recent album inspired by the Summer Isles is a seamless and exciting progression from Mairearad’s previous work.
